Hip dips get more misinformation than almost any body-contouring topic. They are a normal anatomical feature caused by the relationship between the pelvis, the greater trochanter and the soft tissue over it — and how much can be changed depends on which of those three is creating the shadow. What actually causes a hip dip

Three things, in varying proportion. The bony relationship between the pelvis and the femur — which cannot be changed. Muscle bulk over the area — which changes slowly and only a little. And the fat distribution around it, which is what both these treatments address.

When fat grafting is the better answer

When you have fat you would rather not have elsewhere. Hip dip fat grafting in Cheongdam harvests from the flanks, abdomen or outer thighs and places it into the hollow — so the same session slims one area and fills another, which is often exactly the silhouette change people are after.

Surviving grafted fat becomes your own tissue and stays. A portion resorbs over the first months, so the immediate result is not the final one and a top-up is sometimes part of the plan.

When body filler is the better answer

When neither is the honest answer

When the hollow is predominantly bony. If the shadow comes from where the greater trochanter sits relative to the iliac crest, filling around it gives a limited change and can look unnatural if pushed.

Sometimes the better plan is to treat what surrounds it instead — flank liposuction in Cheongdam narrows the waist above and softens the transition, changing the visual line without filling anything.

Recovery — and the sitting rule after a graft

Fat grafting needs no pressure on the grafted area for two to three weeks: sit forward, use a cushion, do not sleep on it. Grafted fat needs a blood supply to survive, and pressure is what compromises that.

Body filler has an easier recovery — mild swelling, tenderness and occasional bruising for a few days, with the same advice to avoid pressure but for a shorter window. Plan 7–10 days in Seoul for a graft, 3–5 for filler.

What about exercise and squats?

Glute work builds muscle and improves the overall shape, and it is worth doing regardless. It does not fill a hip dip, because the hollow sits over bone and connective tissue rather than over muscle you can grow into it.
