Liposuction while you're fully awake.
Awake liposuction is performed under local anesthesia only — you stay fully conscious, with no general anesthesia and no sedation. It removes the highest-risk part of liposuction, and you walk out the same day. Best for single-area, lower-volume cases, performed by the director.

Conscious, and safer by design.
Awake liposuction at ARTNER Cheongdam is a tumescent technique performed with local anesthesia only — no general anesthesia and no sedation. You stay fully conscious and can talk with the surgeon, eliminating the highest-risk component of liposuction.
It's best for single-area, lower-volume cases — the double chin, cheeks, knees, bra rolls or flanks — and for patients who want the maximum-safety route or have cardiovascular concerns. You're discharged the same day, clear-headed, with no sedation recovery. It isn't the right choice for large 360 cases, where a different plan is safer.
Awake, start to finish.
Knowing exactly how the day runs is why most patients feel calm about staying conscious.
Medical screening
Blood test, ECG, physical exam and Dr. Pyeon's internal-medicine evaluation — the same screening as any case.
Marking awake
Treatment zones are marked while you stand; you're conscious and confirm the targets with the surgeon.
Local anesthesia
Tumescent local anesthetic fully numbs the area; you stay awake, with optional light oral relaxation if you're anxious.
Sculpt & same-day home
A micro-cannula removes the fat — you feel pressure, not pain — and you walk out the same day.
Different bodies, different techniques.
Awake liposuction is a safety-first variant of tumescent technique. Comparing it to sedated alternatives helps you weigh the comfort trade-off against the safety advantage for your case.
| Technique | Best for | Recovery | Skin tightening |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tumescent (standard) Your option | Soft fat, smaller volumes, first-time | 5–7 days | Minimal |
| VASER (ultrasound) | Fibrous fat, definition, revision | 5–7 days | Moderate |
| Water-jet (WAL) | Combined fat-grafting cases | 5–7 days | Minimal |
| Laser-assisted | Mild skin laxity, smaller volumes | 5–7 days | Mild–moderate |
| 360° (full torso) | Abdomen + flanks + back combined | 7–10 days | Technique-dependent |
Dr. Pyeon selects the technique with you at consultation, based on a physical exam of your fat type, skin elasticity and goals — not a one-size-fits-all default.
Who it suits — and who we discuss further.
A good candidate if you…
- Have a single-area, lower-volume goal (double chin, knees, flanks…)
- Want the maximum-safety route and to avoid general anesthesia
- Have a cardiovascular condition where sedation adds risk
- Are on a shorter Seoul trip and comfortable staying conscious
Borderline — needs consultation if you…
- Have larger or multi-area goals (sedation may be safer)
- Have a higher BMI (we may advise stabilising weight first)
- Have significant anxiety about medical procedures
- Have a known lidocaine sensitivity (rare; protocol is modified)
Recovery
- Same-day discharge — you return to your hotel within about 30 minutes
- No sedation recovery period; you're clear-headed immediately
- Office-recovery is typically 3–5 days for single-area cases
- The final contour settles over 3–6 months
Honest risk disclosure
- Mild swelling, bruising and temporary numbness or firmness
- The initial infiltration is the only real needle discomfort
- Lidocaine-related effects are rare and screened for in advance
- Results vary by individual; awake technique has volume limits

Awake means I can check as I go.
Because you're awake and responsive, I can have you shift position and check symmetry in real time. I use awake technique when it fits — and recommend sedation honestly when a larger case calls for it.

Good to know.
Avoiding general anesthesia and sedation removes the highest-risk part of liposuction — there's no breathing tube and no deep anesthesia. You stay conscious and breathing on your own, and every patient is screened first by Dr. Pyeon, an Internal Medicine specialist.
No — the area is fully numbed with tumescent local anesthetic. Most patients describe pressure or mild vibration rather than pain. If you're anxious, an optional light oral relaxant can be taken beforehand; it's not required.
It's best for single-area, lower-volume cases — the double chin, cheeks, knees, bra rolls and flanks are ideal. It isn't suited to large combined 360 cases, where procedure time and safety favour a sedated plan.
No. Awake means local anesthesia only. Sedation is offered separately for larger or longer cases where it improves comfort and safety — Dr. Pyeon will tell you honestly which your case calls for.
You're discharged the same day and clear-headed immediately. Office-recovery is usually 3–5 days for single-area cases, with the final result settling over 3–6 months.

Individual results vary. Liposuction is a surgical medical procedure performed by a licensed physician after consultation, carries risks, and is not suitable for everyone.
