The postpartum abdomen is the most common area international patients ask ARTNER Cheongdam about, and the most common one we ask them to wait on. Timing is not caution for its own sake; each gate below changes the result you get.

Why breastfeeding is a hard stop in Gangnam

Liposuction at ARTNER Cheongdam uses tumescent fluid containing lidocaine and adrenaline, plus optional IV sedation. Lidocaine passes into breast milk; the volumes used in liposuction are far higher than a dental injection. We do not operate on breastfeeding mothers, and we do not recommend "pump and dump" as a workaround.

There is a second, less obvious reason. Prolactin and the hormonal shift of lactation keep fat distribution and fluid retention changing. Contouring before that settles means operating on a body that will look different in three months anyway. Two to three months after the last feed, the shape you have is the shape we plan around.

C-section: what the scar changes in Cheongdam

A low transverse C-section scar is, for a liposuction surgeon, mostly an advantage. Once mature — pale, flat, no tenderness, typically six to twelve months — it becomes the entry point for the cannula, so no new incision is needed on the lower abdomen.

What the scar also does is tether the skin above it. The familiar "shelf" or overhang above a C-section scar is partly fat and partly skin held down by scar tissue. ART-FAT removes the fat; the director will tell you honestly how much of the shelf is fat and how much is skin that liposuction will not release. Where the skin component is large, ART-TUNE tightening is added or a surgical scar revision is discussed.

Diastasis recti: the bulge liposuction cannot fix

Lie on your back, lift your head, and press just above the navel. If your fingers sink into a gap between two ridges of muscle, that is diastasis recti — separation of the rectus muscles that most pregnancies cause and most bodies close only partially. The doming you see when you sit up is the gap, not fat.

Liposuction removes fat in front of the muscle. It does nothing to the gap, and removing fat over a wide diastasis can make the doming more visible, not less. ARTNER Cheongdam, Gangnam measures the gap at consultation. Under about two finger-widths with good core recovery, liposuction gives a clean result. Wider than that, we say so and discuss physiotherapy first or, in large gaps, surgical repair elsewhere before contouring.

Timing a trip to Seoul around childcare

International mothers usually come to Cheongdam between 9 and 18 months postpartum, after weaning and once a partner or family can cover five to seven days. For injection or ART-TUNE, a long weekend in Gangnam is enough and the course continues on return trips or is front-loaded. For ART-FAT, plan seven to ten days in Seoul so the first follow-up and compression check happen in person.

You cannot lift a toddler for about a week after abdominal liposuction. That single fact decides more travel dates than anything else, and ARTNER Cheongdam will plan around it with you on WhatsApp.

What results to expect — and what Cheongdam leaves alone

Expect a flatter lower abdomen and a smoother waist-to-hip line within three to six months of ART-FAT, once swelling has gone. Expect stretch marks to remain; they are skin, not fat. Expect the C-section scar to be used, not added to.

Do not expect liposuction to close a muscle gap, lift skin that has lost elasticity, or restore a pre-pregnancy body type. ARTNER Cheongdam, Gangnam would rather set those limits in the consultation than have you discover them in the mirror.
