How much fat can be removed in one liposuction session?
Safety limits at ARTNER Cheongdam, Gangnam.
Under tumescent local anaesthesia without general anaesthetic, ARTNER Cheongdam, Gangnam removes up to roughly 3–4 litres of fat aspirate in one session — enough for a full abdomen and both flanks, or three to four smaller areas. Anything beyond that is staged into a second session rather than pushed through in one. The litre figure is a safety ceiling, not a goal, and because we price per area with no extraction limit there is no incentive to take more than your line needs.

"How much can you take out?" is the question behind most consultations at ARTNER Cheongdam. The honest answer has two parts: what is safe in one awake session, and what your body actually needs — and the second is almost always less than the first.
You want a real number, not a sales pitch.
- You have several areas and want them done in one trip.
- A clinic quoted you "unlimited" and it worried you.
- You have read about 5-litre limits and want to know what applies.
- You want to understand why price is per area, not per litre.
- You have a lot to remove and wonder about two sessions.
Here is the arithmetic ARTNER Cheongdam, Gangnam uses, and why.
The safe ceiling under local anaesthesia in Cheongdam
International guidance sets around 5 litres of total aspirate as the point above which liposuction should happen in a hospital with overnight monitoring. ARTNER Cheongdam operates below that deliberately. Under tumescent local anaesthesia with optional IV sedation — no general anaesthetic — our working ceiling is about 3–4 litres of aspirate per session, which usually corresponds to 2–3 litres of pure fat once the tumescent fluid is accounted for.
The limit comes from two things: the maximum safe dose of lidocaine in the tumescent fluid, and fluid shifts in the body when large volumes are removed. Both are managed by the internal-medicine director, which is why a physician rather than a technician decides where your session stops.
What 3–4 litres looks like in areas
| Typical single-session plan at ARTNER Cheongdam | Approximate aspirate |
|---|---|
| Full abdomen + both flanks ( 360) | 2.5–4 L |
| Both outer + inner thighs | 2–3.5 L |
| Abdomen + chest (men) | 2–3 L |
| Both arms + bra line | 1–2 L |
| Double chin + neck | 0.1–0.3 L |
| Inner knees + inner thighs | 1–2 L |
Volumes vary with body size; a tall man's abdomen yields far more than a petite woman's. The director estimates your volume at consultation from pinch thickness and surface area, and tells you whether your wish list fits one session.
Why ARTNER Cheongdam prices per area, not per litre
Per-litre pricing — or "unlimited" marketing — creates the wrong incentive in both directions: to take more than the line needs, or to leave some behind for a second bill. ART-FAT is priced per area with no limit on extraction within that area. The director removes what the contour requires, whether that is 300 ml or 1.5 litres from an abdomen, and the price does not change.
That is also why we can be honest about volume: there is nothing to gain from inflating the number.

The result is not the litres
Patients sometimes ask for "as much as possible". A good result is an even layer of fat left over the muscle — typically a centimetre or so — with smooth transitions into untreated areas. Taking that layer away produces dents, ridges and skin that sticks to muscle. The best-looking abdomens from ARTNER Cheongdam are rarely the ones with the highest volume; they are the ones where the right amount was left.
Two litres removed cleanly beats three removed aggressively, every time.
What happens when too much is taken: uneven results and when revision is needed.
When we stage into two sessions in Gangnam
If your plan exceeds the ceiling — abdomen, flanks, back and both thighs, for example — ARTNER Cheongdam splits it. The usual pattern is the trunk in session one and the legs in session two, one to two weeks apart if you are staying in Seoul, or on a second trip. Each session is a full tumescent procedure with its own recovery, and staging lets the director see how the first areas settle before shaping the next.
International patients often prefer one longer trip of 10–14 days with both sessions inside it. We plan the dates around your flights on WhatsApp.

Body weight, BMI and volume
Volume removed does not translate into weight lost. Two litres of fat weighs under two kilos, and swelling masks even that for weeks. If your goal is a lower number on the scale, liposuction is the wrong tool and the director will say so — Wegovy or Mounjaro prescribed in Cheongdam is what moves the scale.
Higher BMI also means more fibrous tissue and more fluid shift per litre, which is one reason ARTNER Cheongdam asks patients above about BMI 30 to lose weight first: the same litre is safer and more visible on a smaller frame.
Questions to ask any clinic about volume
Ask what the clinic's per-session ceiling is and who sets it. Ask whether the surgeon or a technician decides when to stop. Ask what anaesthesia is used and whether large volumes are done in an outpatient room under general anaesthetic — a combination worth avoiding. Ask whether the price changes with volume. ARTNER Cheongdam's answers are above; a clinic that cannot answer them is telling you something.
In short — ARTNER Cheongdam, Gangnam removes up to about 3–4 litres of aspirate per awake session — a full abdomen and flanks, or three to four smaller areas — and stages anything larger into a second session rather than exceeding the safe lidocaine and fluid limits. Price is per area with no extraction cap, so volume is a safety ceiling rather than a target, and the best results come from leaving an even layer, not from the highest number.

I set the ceiling as a physician, not as a surgeon trying to impress. Three litres removed with an even layer left behind is a result. Five litres removed because the patient asked is a risk, and usually a worse shape.

Liposuction volume questions answered by ARTNER Cheongdam, Gangnam.
Up to about 3–4 litres of aspirate under tumescent local anaesthesia — typically 2–3 litres of pure fat — enough for a full abdomen and both flanks or three to four smaller areas.
Volumes near 5 litres belong in a hospital with overnight monitoring and usually general anaesthesia. ARTNER Cheongdam operates awake, below that line, and stages larger plans instead.
No. ART-FAT is priced per area with no extraction limit within the area, so there is no incentive to remove more or less than the contour needs.
Very little — two litres of fat is under two kilos, and swelling masks it for weeks. Liposuction changes shape; weight is a job for diet or GLP-1 medication.
The internal-medicine director stops when an even layer of about a centimetre remains over the muscle and the transitions are smooth, or when the safety ceiling is reached — whichever comes first.
Yes, in two sessions one to two weeks apart within a 10–14 day stay in Seoul — trunk first, legs second.
Usually the opposite. Over-resection causes dents and skin adhesion. The best results from ARTNER Cheongdam leave the right amount, not the least.
More is available, but the same litre is less safe and less visible on a larger frame. Above about BMI 30 we recommend losing weight first.
